Horrible Internet speeds

Well, I've just gotten a new computer... (my old one literally fell apart... several things prevented it from turning on) and I've downloaded a few files, but recently, my computer and the internet speeds have dropped dramatically, and I have no idea what's wrong with them. I've scanned it with AVGfree, and nothing seems to be wrong with it, but I have a nagging feeling that there's something on there, so I need a bit of help finding what it is. Perhaps it's some form of concealed spyware..?

Ah yes, just so you know, if I reset my router, the internet speed goes up by a lot, but it slowly goes down until I can't even access google... should I run a hijackthis scan..?

Download HijackThis self-extracting zip version from here. Once downloaded, double click on the file & it will install into it's own, permanent folder.
Start HJT & press the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. When the scan is finished a window will pop up giving you the option of where to save it. Save it to desktop where it is easy to access. Open the log file and copy the entire contents of the file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

Stuff's sped up a fair bit, but it's still slower than when I reset my router. Oh well...

is it wireless or wired connection?
