Project Ideas Please?

I am a teacher and am having trouble thinking of ideas for my summer computer science class. We deal with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and MySQL. The project should be fairly adept in order to challenge my students...they are training for a rigorous national competition. Please help me! Thank You for any cooperation!

How about a web based game. Could be based on sports, adventure, puzzel etc.
