Optimizing for After Effects 7 on a G5

  #1
Aug 31st, 2007
Here are the system specs of this machine:

OS 10.4.3

Hardware Overview:

Machine Name: Power Mac G5
Machine Model: PowerMac7,3
CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (3.1)
Number Of CPUs: 2
CPU Speed: 2.7 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1.35 GHz
Boot ROM Version: 5.2.4f1

Using a KONA capture card, that will not do OpenGL, as far as I can tell.

Using After Effects 7, HD project, using plug-ins: Zaxwerks 3D Invigorator Pro, Trapcode Shine, Trapcode 3D Stroke

Not seeing any kind of acceptable render times going on with this machine. It seems slower than the G4 we have.

Any pointers as to how to make this thing run faster? I've deleted startup items, turned off gradients, and other small adobe suggestions.
