Unusal upgrade issue

  #1
Dec 10th, 2007
company is using SQL version 7 to support heavy many ASP program

last weekend, I try to upgrade it by installing extra SQL version 2000 (a software that company got) -- to try to aim for failover custer for the future

then I can't find the enterprise manager console from SQL server 2000

====
those analytics service etc (advanced stuff) seem to be in START --> program .... (but not the core)

===

then I uninstall SQL server 2000 during last weekend

==

today, I put the SQL server 2000 there again, while the Database is LIVE and serving many ASP program (i.e. I did not stop it -- in the past, this does not produce fatal error)

the big mistake -- I choose UPGRADE to 2000 (during installation) and then replace the INSTANCE of existing SQL server v 7

then oooops

the whole SQL -- whatever version , is DOWN

and I can't really unintall SQL server 2000

===

I reinstall SQL server v7, and try to ATTACH an important database (forgot to detach it first, and forgot to detach and attach MASTER database first)

the whole thing won't work

===

still fixing the issue as the company rely on many database there (in that server)

what is the proper STEP of doing it - they upgrade got so much issue
(did search on net, maybe you expertise guys could lead me the PROPER way of doing it)

thanks
