windows cant load or open explorer.exe!! help!!
![]() |
i googled it. apparently crcdisk.sys is very buggy and it causes vista to BSOD after repair/install
Apparently there is a way to fix it:
1) plug in a ps/2 keyboard and uplug your USB one
2) disable USB keyboard support in the BIOS settings
one guy on an MS forum said to then:
do you have daemon tools?

I've solved the problem. I just deleted sptd.sys from <WINDOWS>\System32\Drivers\.
This driver was installed by DAEMON Tools. Vista fails to load if you are trying to install it over XP with old DAEMON Tools installed. And Vista Upgrade advisor knows nothing about it. To solve the problem download and install latest DAEMON Tools before upgrading your OS.
OR (if you are already in progress of Vista installation and have this problem) load from your bootable Windows Vista CD and choose to restore. Tnen choose 'other options' and go to console. Then go to <WINDOWS>\System32\Drivers\ and delete sptd.sys. Now restart. Vista will load fine after it and continue installation.

yes i have one daemon tools installed...i have this installed just when i installed my OS a few months ago...i didnt find any problems with it...i even mount images succesfully with it...ill still try deleting the sptd.sys file...
but im not using a usb keyboard...
i also tried overwriting my .sys files with the .sys files from the OS i am using right now...it somehow kinda improved the situation...the BSOD doesnt show anymore but i dont see the logon screen...just a black screen and my mouse cursor...
did you try control + alt + delete twice ??
Windows has a backup login screen that gets shown when you do that (the windows 2000 style login screen) , in case the welcome screen gets broken/

sorry, thats really wierd, but at least it is booting now (sort of).
I think you may have to reinstall
might be worthwhile taking it to a professional computer repair shop though

The fact that the mouse pointer shows up means the boot config data is OK. You mentioned System Restore did not work from WinRE or Safe Mode. Try this. When you're at the black screen with the mouse pointer, open Task Manager, go to File > New Task and punch in "explorer" over there. That should bring up the main Windows shell in the normal mode. Once that happens, try running System Restore.
