CentOS 5.1 install on Dell D820 format of media bay drive takes unusually long time

I am installing CentOS 5.1 to a PATA drive in my Media Bay on my Dell D820. During the portion of the install where the partitions are formatted, it is taking an unusually long time. For instance, I am using LVM and have a 512Mb ext2 partition set up for /tmp and it took about 8 minutes to format. On my D800 it took about 2 seconds.

I've also noticed that large file creating on ext3 and xfs partitions is taking an unusually long time as well. I created a 1Gb file on an ext3 partition and it took over 30 minutes.

I should also note that this does not happen when I install FC8 or Ubuntu 7.10.

Has anyone else tried installing to the media bay instead of the SATA drive?

Cheers in advance,

Andy
