Pulling my hair out!
I need a 3rd eye. My site http://unscriptednews.com displays some graphics and not others. I have checked and re-checked my image location and still nothing. Locally, they display just as they should, but not on the web. (IE7 or Mozilla)
This is the poison code: (ignore code tags)
<code>
<p>
<h2 align="center">PLUG-INS</H2>
<font size="4"><b>Click on the graphic if you need either one of these plugins:<b></font>
<br>
</p>
<p>
<a href="http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp"><img src="getjava.gif" height="31" alt="Get a cup of hot Java Plugin" width="88" hspace="40"></a>
<a href="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash"><img src="flash.gif" height="33"
alt="Get Adobe Flash Player" width="112" border="2"></a>
</p>
<font size="3" color="red"><b>These graphics are chapping my ass. The links are hot, but no image. I'll fix them shortly!<b></font>
</body>
</html>
</code>
I have tried everything I can think of - I'm hoping someone has a better clue than I seem to.
Thx

You could try closing the image tags with "</img>" or "/>".
Like so:

The image tags are correct, there's no need for the /> tag. I've narrowed it down though. There is something wrong with the image file, but i can't figure out what. They display correctly in my local image viewer. If you look at the page now, (link above) I replaced the images with the eagle and they display fine. Go figure. I put the images in the root dir where the eagle is so I just don't know. Frustrating.....

Problem solved. I finally gave up and made my own graphics - and they work. I still can't seem to get the images recognized when they're in a sub-directory so I have to put them in the root dir. One thing at a time.
P/S: I seem to have better luck with .gif images than .jpg's. They don't compress quite as small, but work well.

Got here a bit late to see your work in progress but next time you might try going back to the problem code and temporarily changing the img code to an absolute value instead of a relative one. It often helps to identify exactly where the breakdown may be.
A quick note regarding your original code posted above; the src of your images is in the root dir but you said in your last post that you had problems with them appearing in sub's, the way you have your code above, they would not appear anywhere unless they were in the root. The posted code shows no sub-directory location.

I had to change the code back for the images to display, until I figure why they're not being picked up from the images dir. I want the code to read:
"images" being the sub-dir. I have exactly the same graphics in both the root and images dirs. Does the syntax look correct? Baffled. thx.
<scr img="images/whatever.gif" height= "etc. etc.">

Not sure why I didn't see this before but you haven't closed your <a href="http://...."> tags, remember after each anchor surrounding the image you need to close the tag with a corresponding </a>

While that may or may not casue inconsistencies, I saw a page in your images directory...an index page, maybe a copy of an original, the code in there is wrong and I'm not sure if it's related to the problems your having from the root. You have on the /images/index.html page a link that looks like this: unscriptednews.com/images/images/flash.gif, if this is anything similar to the coding when you are pointing at the image subdirectory from the root directory, I'd say your relative links are still incorrect.
I see it's on Godaddy. I personally have used Godaddy for most websites and have never had any problems, it really leads me to believe that these are simple coding errors vs any other bigger issues. Unfortunately, not being able to see the complete directory structure and exact file locations, makes pinpointing the exact problem a bit more difficult.
If you need more specific help or want me to look deeper at your FTP, drop me an email at randy@girlsoftexasmag.com
