Print out your query, execute it in phpmyadmin/ mysql console and see if it works. You can also give "die" to check if your query is working or not.
ie.,

 Help with Code Tags 
 php Syntax (Toggle Plain Text) 
$query = mysql_query("your query") or die(mysql_error())";
 
$query = mysql_query("your query") or die(mysql_error())";
