Is silverlight worth the hype?

Hi all, I hope I've slotted this in the right forumn.

My project group and I have taken a new web develpoment project, thing is, the sponsor wants it to look awesome as it will be used predominantly by the public.

So its new to us in that we have to focus more on how it looks than how it works. As we're using .NET & ASP, we have been thinking about using MS Silverlight.

As its new and all, Id just like some feedback from anybody who has used it in development before? Is it worth the hassle in terms of performance and end results and more importantly is it easy to use/learn.

Any response or direction towards some usefull literature/tutorials would be very helpful and much appreciated.
