I Need a Help on WAP Application on Database connectivity

i am currently doing a wap site for a university project and i just wanted to know how to connect my site to my to a database basically SQL server, i understand that this may be a simple problem to solve, i am just unsure as to how i can do it, i cant use wml for this task.
