Time: 8:30:42 PM
User: N/A
Computer: GARYHOMEOFFICE
Description:
An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk2\D during a paging operation.

I think I have an idea what is causing it, but I don't know how to fix it. When I built the computer, I initially installed only one hard drive (which Windows named C:\), and one optical drive (which Windows named D:\). I later installed a second hard drive, which Windows named E:\. It looks from the error message as though the system is attempting to write paging files to the D: drive, believing it to be a hard drive. So, I used Disk Management to rename the drives, calling the second hard drive "D:\" and the optical drive "E:\", thinking that would solve the problem. Instead, the system gave me a BSOD and refused to boot. So I started Windows in Safe mode and undid the renaming. It then booted up OK. The system basically works fine, but I'd like to stop it from generating these error messages. Any ideas?

Thanks very much. I will keep an eye on the error log but I am betting this will resolve the issue.

Unfortunately, I am still getting the error message. One thing that is especially odd is that the error is logged at nearly precise 60-minute intervals for five or six consecutive hours, and then stops for a day or two. I tried to figure out what process might be kicking in at those times, but could not think of anything. I also looked through the Registry to see if I could find a key that was telling the system to write paging files to "Harddisk 2" or to the D: drive, but couldn't find anything.

Possibly totally unrelated, but I am also getting errors logged saying the system is unable to synchronize to a time source. I looked at the Windows Help link and it basically says that, unless your system is a network server, ignore the error.

Any further ideas? Thanks for your help.

check your power settings do you have them set to turn off the hard drive if it has been idle for any period of time.

if this is the case then that could be why you are getting the error and is really nothing to worry about.
