The site is www.jerise.com

Any help very welcome!

IE5.0? wow, I don't think there are many of those around.

Do you get any error messages in IE5.0? Or is the page just blank?

Well, I think it's just blank--on the online check it just didn't come up as a page (was taking a *really* long time, basically, and I think it never would have come up).

I guess there aren't many out there, but I'd love to just be able to be seen by my friend through that browser at least! And I really was aiming for total visibility, also for very old browsers, because I know there are folks out there who have them...

I can't see anything wrong with your HTML at all.

You can't really target all browsers, especially old ones. If you do so, you would be limiting the site in newer ones. (But its really your personal decision and target audience as that is just a general statement).

IF you want to see what your site looks like in different browsers then try the service:
http://browsershots.org/

It will give you screenshots of how your site looks. Hopefully they support IE5.0. Otherwise, try browsercam but its a paid service.

First, please start your own thread and not ask a new problem in an existing thread ... you will likely get a much better response to your question.

Second, I develop websites and try to make them backwards-fowards-and sideways compatible but IE 5 is such an old and out-of-date browser that I don't even think about it when designing sites. It's time for your friend to update her browser and for you not to worry about your site being compatible with older browsers -- just my two cents.

Here's where you can go to see if you HTML and CSS is compliant (not that compliant code works in all the latest browsers either eg. IE) but it's a good place to start anytime you have concerns about your site design and coding standards.

http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/

http://validator.w3.org/

I think that IE 5 might not recognize your style of CSS file include... I'm not sure but I think that came around IE 6 -- but that's just a guess. Also CSS wasn't as fully developed in the IE 5 days.

Good luck

[edit]Sorry, I entirely missed page 2 of this thread until I posted my own response ... [/eidt]

Thank you--the sites for checking my code and css are very helpful, and I didn't know about the validator.w3.org site at all! I think I have to learn more about the differences between html/xhtml etc. But I feel like I made a start, and added a (more) proper heading. I'm not going to worry too much about IE 5.0, but I do want the most accessibility I can reasonably manage.

I almost started a new thread, but I wasn't sure. I will in future.

Thank you!!
