problem with os module

Ok I'm making a program in PyQt and when I call
Python Syntax (Toggle Plain Text) 
  1. os.path.join("~/", "otherdirectory")
It gives me:
Python Syntax (Toggle Plain Text) 
  1. File '/usr/lib/python2.5/posixpath.py', Line 62, in join:
  2.     elif path == ' ' or path.endswith('/'):
  3. Attribute Error: endswith

I don't know what is causing this.
Any help would be appreciated!

Gah! Ok I'm sorry guys, I got it.
Turns out that the string I wanted to join was a QString. Meh ok anyway I fixed it.
