I have a list of numbers, say;
1, 2, 3, 4, 5

and i want to find the next biggest number to 3, obv the answer would be 4. ive tried every book i know, and MSDN, i cant find anything, is this not possible?

Well, heres one way. Your numbers must be in an array. Sort the array desending and pick the number above your chosen number,
