you could explore the possibility of using more green matching with the "nature" spread out the inner box OR center the inner box and for the ALPHABET active links of the various menu items you could think of highlighting only those active in appropriate with the menu items. the GOAL of the website should be more clear you could try expressing these in the banner of the website...you could think of an alternative to the black color

I think you could also do more on the home page to welcome new people and set expectations about what the site is going to do for them.
