dropdown list: select first two letters

I have a selection field with a drop down list that is populated from a database that has over 2000 records.
They're alphabetical and I want to allow the user to select the first 2 letters to move through the list. For example, BO would take them to the first name with BO.

my friend you can do that through your database query

where variable name like ""
