Hi
If you have 1.5 years experience then I would have thought that would have been enough to get a job as a junior DBA! If you can't get a job then why not download the latest version of Oracle (11g) and install it and play with the new features. read up on the new features (otn.oracle.com) and once you have knowledge of 11g then you will be as experienced as anyone else in the industry.
Get familiar with basics such as the database architecture, file types (redo logs, control files and datafiles) look at backups using RMAN, look at flashback etc. Make sure you can stop and start a database, troubleshoot problems using the alert log etc. Get familiar with dbconsole and how it can be used. Know some SQL and data dictionary views - it is very useful for a DBA.
The list is endless, but if you could do this kind of stuff then I would consider you for a job.
Merry Christmas
Alistair

Hi Alistair,
Thanks so much for you reply.i really am experienced with Oracle 10g and infact i am[B] Oracle 10g certified Professional (OCP) during the days of 10g just before 11g was released. i achieved this feat by studying hard. i downloaded the Oracle 10g software from Oracle website and then did my training with NIIT a foremost Indian IT Training institute based in NIgeria and after the training, i have been studying and preparing on my own for one and a half years before coming to the UK to begin my MSc. I have loads of books which i have studied and i still doing lots serious practice ever since both on the EM and text based administration of multiple instances using SQL Plus or isqlplus. I am very proficient in the writing in Oracle SQL. I am also capable of performing all sorts of basic and advanced database operations ranging from performance tuning, backup and recovery, database upgrade and installations on both the Windows XP and Redhat Linux platform etc.i am not a novice with oracle just that i have not been able to get a job from with which i can start my career. I still practice regularly and i hope i get that Oracle DBA job soon because i have reached the point of exploding. i wish i can get someone who can test my knowledge of the Oracle 10g and they will be surprised as to how much i know.
can u help me i am based in Nottingham UK.
Thanks

Hi Alistair
if anyone can help me i would be forever grateful. i just need that big break so that i can start my career as an Oracle Database Administrator or at the very least an Sql programmer. im sad and tired of not being able to put everything i have been practising for countless hours on my laptop to use in a real work place. i am reakly passionate about being a database administrator that i had to change my field from chemistry to Computer science after discovering my passion for databases.
i make bold to say i am well knowledgeable beyond my years of experience as i always aspire to learn more. please can anyone help me. money is not the most important thing as all i want is a place to start up my career as a DBA.
