Combofix should only ever be run under supervision from someone with knowledge of it's use. In the wrong hands, it can mash ones pc.
Also, combofix was designed to run at it's optimum in normal mode, not safe mode. Only in certain circumstances will it be needed to run in safe mode.
Smitfraud need only be run in safe mode whilst running option #2.
