RAM not detected

I got these 2 RAMs from my friends old computer and I tried to put one in the slot.
It didn't fit so I took off 1 of my RAMs that was already
installed in the computer when I bought it to see what it looks like.
I reinserted the original RAM (but not the 2
RAMs I got from my friend) back in and turned on my computer.
I went to view my settings and it only says I got 248MB of RAM.
It used to be 512MB.

HELP PLEASE!!

try to clear your CMOS...and go to BIOS..choose load default settings...check if it will help..
TRY MY SUGGESTIONS AT YOUR OWN RISK
Do other alternative first..cheap and easy ways..
Don't take out money from your pocket when you're not so sure that it will solve the problem..

check this link..

http://www.dewassoc.com/support/bios/bios_password.htm

i suggest just take out the CMOS batt and power on your machine for 10secs.. turn it off and put back CMOS batt..

but if you're not tech savy....ask a friend..who knows how to do it.. you might get into more problem
