What happens when you insert a CD?
Does it show up in explorer?
Have you tried differnet CDs?
You could also see if the problem is the same in safe mode.

More info please! Have you been able to use cd on the drive in the past?
Is the device listed as a dvd cd-rom device in your device manager?
then i drop down menu and it reads
tsstcorp cddvdw ts-h653n ata device
and i have never been able in the past to use any cd's or installm software...only dvd's will play
Enter safe mode, just reboot PC and when it restarts just press F8 until choices are given:
1. Safe mode
2. safe mode with networking
3.........

Hi,
If trying safe mode results in the same then you could try a bootable CD. This should determine if it is a Operating System issue or Hardware issue.
If we can't solve your problem you may have to buy a new drive. hopefully that won't happen.
