Mac G5 Airport connection

I have been trying to get an airport extreme card to work with a WRT54G Linksys wireless router. I tried apple tech support and they tell me to speak to Linksys tech support. Linksys tells me to talk to apple. So they seem to have me between a rock and a hard place.
