Java and XML
 

hi all.iv been assigned a project to create rule sets for a database using using Java and Xml. i am supposed to create rules and then customize the rules as required into various modules. initially i am supposed to use a flat file but later move on to a DB. i am supposed to use the java object for XML parsing to obtain the requisite data.

my qns are:
1. im completely new to java. which parts of java do i go bout studying to just get enuff knowledge to get my work done(as im under a strict deadline)?

2. my guide mentioned sumthin bout using java since it culd be used as a plugin. i didnt understand what he meant.culd sum1 pls clarify?

iv been given an overview of the system but the implementation is upto me.
