External portable hard disk problem
 

i got this new 40gig usb 2.0 portable hard disk, i mistakenly dropped it and now it make a scratching kind of sound when i plug it to my computer and other computers, the computer doesnt read it at all. what can i do to fix the hard disk and recover my files..please let me know?? i will really appreciate ur help

only way to recover anything from that is to take it to a disk recovery lab. they might be able to recover the files. however the disk itself is absolutely dead, and needs to be replaced

jeez,my 40 gb portable broke without dropping it.
i was using it,connected to my laptop and went to make a phone call when i came back tried to open a file from it and the pc hung up....then the HD never worked.
can this happen without dropping it?

Disk Recovery can be $.
Disk Itself can be replaced for far less than data is worth.
