virus alert in task bar

hi , im running winxp pro and have got a virus with "virus alert" in the task bar.

I read quit a bit about this virus and the method of fixing it but when i boot up into
window , whether it be in safe mode , regular mode etc , it does not alow me access to any files or to run , install anything.
currently im resizing my hard drive via norton partition magic pro server 8.05 which i boot directly from the cd drive. So i can maybe load another operating system onto it to gain access to my other operating system and files.

so im open to any and all input anyone has to offer im desperate............lol

thanks so much

Curtis
