| DVD/CD driver problems I have 2 computers and both had working CD/DVD burners, but now they are not working (when click on My Computer, they're not there). I've uninstalled and tried reinstalling, but get error message: driver either corrupted or missing, code 39. I ran various spyware/malware programs...they still don't work. I removed "upper and lower filters" in the registry, but still no luck. I did "Hijack this" and here's the results, but not quite sure what to fix, can you help??? Here's the results from the Hijack: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 10:20:33 AM, on 8/31/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Ahead\InCD\InCDsrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware 2007\aawservice.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgwdsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe C:\WINDOWS\CDProxyServ.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Smith Micro\StuffIt11\ArcNameService.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\VTTimer.exe C:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\pctspk.exe C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgtray.exe C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgrsx.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgemc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\PROGRA~1\WINZIP\winzip32.exe C:\unzipped\hijackthis[1]\HijackThis.exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.yahoo.com/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://us.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ie/...ch/search.html R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://us.rd.yahoo.com/customize/ie/.../www.yahoo.com R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.yahoo.com/ R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1;*.local R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing O2 - BHO: (no name) - {02478D38-C3F9-4EFB-9B51-7695ECA05670} - (no file) O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgssie.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5AA2BA46-9913-4dc7-9620-69AB0FA17AE7} - (no file) O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\ssv.dll O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file) O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {5AA2BA46-9913-4dc7-9620-69AB0FA17AE7} - (no file) O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VTTimer] VTTimer.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SoundMan] SOUNDMAN.EXE O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PCTVOICE] pctspk.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVG8_TRAY] C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgtray.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AppleSyncNotifier] C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleSyncNotifier.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe O8 - Extra context menu item: &AOL Toolbar search - res://C:\Program Files\AOL Toolbar\toolbar.dll/SEARCH.HTML O8 - Extra context menu item: E&xport to Microsoft Excel - res://C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\OFFICE11\EXCEL.EXE/3000 O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\ssv.dll O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Sun Java Console - {08B0E5C0-4FCB-11CF-AAA5-00401C608501} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\ssv.dll O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file) O9 - Extra button: Run IMVU - {d9288080-1baa-4bc4-9cf8-a92d743db949} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdocvw.dll O9 - Extra button: Yahoo! | Re: DVD/CD driver problems I've had similar situations before.... Sadly, the only thing that fixed it in my case was a recovery. Do you have a recovery partition or CDs for this computer? I do have one idea that you can try: Try running a chkdsk. (Start>My computer>Right click C:\>Properties>Tools>Error checking>check both boxes>OK>OK>Reboot). Also, try swapping out the DVD drives for known good ones. Its odd that it happened to both of these computers.... Post back with results! Let me know if you need anything clarified. --The Commodore |
