IE Problem. Search engine redirecting. (with HijackThis log)
 

Yesterday I started experiencing a problem with Yahoo and Google search engines in Internet Explorer. The search results direct me to a pop-up in a different window (with the URL beginning go.yahoo.... and go.google...)

I ran Ad-Aware, Spybot, CCleaner and my antivirus software with no luck. After searching a bit it was suggested that I run HijackThis and post the log on this forum asking for help.

If anyone has a moment and could be of any help at all it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi welcome to daniweb,

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.

* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.

Post back here with that MBA-M log.

Looks like MBA-M did it's job. A question, do you use Lotus or Microsoft Exchange for your mail?
Reason I ask is I see you have a lone McAfee program running and that is McAfee Spamkiller, which, according to their website is exclusively for use with either of those two programs. If you do not use either then you should uninstall it.
You also have a few unnecessary start ups running all the time in the background and these can easily be run manually when needed.
Run HiJackThis again and place a checkmark next to the following;

I do not use either for e-mail but it was very likely bundled with the old McAfee I used for antivirus and must have lingered from then. I was unhappy with the antivirus I was most recently using so I switched back to McAfee last night.
