Facebook Virus :(
 

Hi everyone. Complete non-IT guy here. However, a true facebook fan.
Unfortunately some joker has started a virus on facebook that i stupidly opened and have caught... it sends messages to your your friends telling them of a video they are in and then when they open the link they too catch the worm/virus (or whatever it is!).
Tried running my anti-virus software but this doesnt seem to have worked?
Can anybody help please?!!

Hi Tom,
First off, a warm welcome to DaniWeb.

1. Download HijackThisTrend Micro and save it to your desktop.
2. Double click on HJTInstall.exe to install it. Click on Install. By default, it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
3. Read through the License Agreement presented to you on the next screen and click on I Accept.
4. Once installed, HijackThis will start automatically. If it doesn't, please go to your desktop and double click on the HijackThis shortcut created there.
5. Click on Do a system scan and save a logfile.
6. Close HijackThis.

Post the contents of the log here so that
I can see if there is/are infection(s) in your computer

Hi, please can I have an Uninstall List too?

Please re-open HijackThis and click Open Misc Tools section and then click on, Open Uninstall manager.
Click on Save list... and copy paste the log here.

Summary : As far as I can see, you have the WebRebates infection.
What I'm trying to do here is to find out if any other malicious software is installed on your system.

This seems to be a new virus, and I'm infected, too. This is the only reference so far to this virus that I could find via google searching. AVG Antivirus finds "Kenny18" virus. So far I have been unable to eliminate it. Please post any solutions anyone finds here. Thanks!

Exit HJT.
Next go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove and UNINSTALL WebRebates4
Then go back again to Add/Remove and look for and UNINSTALL if found Web CPR.
Next:
Please download OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.

* Save it to your desktop.
* Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
Highlight and Right Click and Choose Copy, the following;
C:\windows\kenny18.exe
* Return to OTMoveIt2, right click in the "Paste Custom List Of Files/Patterns To Move" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
* Click the red Moveit! button.
* Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) by highlighting ALL of them and choose Copy, and paste it in your next reply.
* Close OTMoveIt2

Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes. In this case, after the reboot, open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

* Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
* Under Main choose: Select All
* Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.

* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.

Reboot the computer. Run a new HJT scan and save the log. Post back here with this new HJT log, the OTMoveIt2 log and the MBA-M log.
