| Unable To Change Vista Background - pdtwzd.exe virus? Hi there, my Acer Aspire 6920 running on Vista has definately been the victim of a virus & for the life of me, without reinstalling & wiping my hard drive, can I figure a way around it. It keeps crashing & pausing. When I restart it occasionally goes to Acer Arcade! Then, when I return to the desktop, it usually says that pdtwzd.exe has stopped working. Also, when I run Hijack This, it stops the full scan by saying that it is denied access to the 'hosts' file. It will also not allow me to change my desktop picture with a photograph, only a single colour. Here is the log file & would appreciate any help. BTW none of the solutions in this site or any other have worked to date. Hope someone can help. Thank you. | Re: Unable To Change Vista Background - pdtwzd.exe virus? My Opinions: Get avast Antivirus from www.avast.com Get home edition and register to get keys. Install it and start it. Enter reg code and cancel memory scanning at startup. After it has started, Right click and click on boot schedule scan. Accept restart now then let it do the job. Just move any infection at prompt. After system is cleaned up, Run check disk by right click properties for disk integrity check, also defragmentation hen Go to www.wise.com and get free version of their registry and disck cleaners; install them and fix your problems. Google for Revo Uninstaller and download it. Install it and use it to completely remove programs that seems to be sturbborn. Be careful not to remove device drivers or your own programs! Don't forget to feedback on issue Hope it will help you Steve |

| Re: Unable To Change Vista Background - pdtwzd.exe virus? Hello, Pls do the following: 1. - Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes...=dl&tag=button) to your desktop. * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. * Post the log back here. Make sure that you restart the computer. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt 2. - Download hijackthis and post the FULL HJT log. In your reply, post the logs (in this order): 1. - Malware Bytes Log 2. - FULL Hijackthis Log Thanks, Cohen |

| Re: Unable To Change Vista Background - pdtwzd.exe virus? I have the same machine. The same executable file Pdtwzd.Exe It is NOT behaving like a Virus. It is acting more like a conflict were an update is now crashing the program by using the same memory location. Researching it further shows that the file is Part of: Acer Bio-Protection fingerprint solution Common Path(s): %programfiles%\acer\bio-protection fingerprint solution This issue began right after I perform the last Vista 32bit update for Premium home edition on my Acer. My 2 cents worth. |
