| browswer hijacked to go.google Hi This is a similar thread to a couple others I have seen. First symptom - cannot access websites from google searches - the browser gets a pop up to various sites - not all of them particularly wholesome. The nasty thing is that access to almost ANY anti virus and anti malware sites result in the generic screen for connection problem. The previous posts suggested using Malwarebytes and Spybot. I was able to bring home a copy of Spybot and unfortunately before you can run it, it must go get the latest updates, and you can't access them so the program is useless. I haven't been able to get a copy of Malwarebytes - will it be the same scenario there? I have been able to download and run Hijack This but of course I cannot upload the results for analysis. Below is a copy of the log I got. I was able to download and purchase Stop Sign antivirus and malware software - it continues to be updated but has not fixed the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2 Scan saved at 7:31:24 PM, on 10/24/2008 Platform: Windows XP SP3 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v7.00 (7.00.6000.16735) Boot mode: Normal Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Ahead\InCD\InCDsrv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware\aawservice.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exe C:\Program Files\Intel\ASF Agent\ASFAgent.exe C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgwdsvc.exe C:\Program Files\COMODO\Firewall\cmdagent.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\CTsvcCDA.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\EACCEL~1\FRAMEW~1\eac_productsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\slserv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\PROGRA~1\EACCEL~1\FRAMEW~1\eac_svc.exe C:\Program Files\eAcceleration\Firewall\FWService.exe C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgrsx.exe C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\avgemc.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe C:\Program Files\Acceleration Software\Anti-Virus\stopsignav.exe C:\Program Files\eAcceleration\OnAccess\onaccess.exe C:\Program Files\Creative\MediaSource\Detector\CTDetect.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\CLI.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\FINDFAST.EXE C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA.EXE C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI.ACE\cli.exe C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger\usnsvc.exe C:\Program Files\eAcceleration\Station\station_bk.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.hurontel.on.ca/ F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\Userinit.exe O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B753C7C5-0942-4b7f-BC27-942B52BDAC66} - C:\PROGRA~1\ACCELE~1\StopSign\webcbrowse.dll O3 - Toolbar: AVG Security Toolbar - {A057A204-BACC-4D26-9990-79A187E2698E} - C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG8\AVGTOO~1.DLL O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [COMODO Firewall Pro] "C:\Program Files\COMODO\Firewall\cfp.exe" -h O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [StopSignSsTsMon] Rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\Acceleration Software\Anti-Virus\sstsmon.dll",VerifyStatus O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [StopSignSsSsMon] Rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\Acceleration Software\Anti-Virus\ssssmon.dll",VerifyStatus O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webscan] "C:\Program Files\Acceleration Software\Anti-Virus\stopsignav.exe" -k O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [StopSignSsFwMon] Rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\eAcceleration\Firewall\ssfwmon.dll",VerifyStatus O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [OnAccess] "C:\Program Files\eAcceleration\OnAccess\onaccess.exe" -erk O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSConfig] C:\WINDOWS\PCHealth\HelpCtr\Binaries\MSConfig.exe /auto O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [StopSignSsSsMon] Rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\Acceleration Software\Anti-Virus\ssssmon.dll",VerifyStatus /ro O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [MASetupCleaner] C:\WINDOWS\system32\MASetupCleaner.exe C:\Program Files\MarkAny\ContentSafer O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Creative Detector] C:\Program Files\Creative\MediaSource\Detector\CTDetect.exe /R O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ctfmon.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Internet Download Accelerator] C:\Program Files\IDA\ida.exe -autorun O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [brastk] C:\WINDOWS\system32\brastk.exe (User 'SYSTEM') O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [brastk] C:\WINDOWS\system32\brastk.exe (User 'Default user') O4 - Startup: Microsoft Find Fast.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\FINDFAST.EXE O4 - Startup: Office Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA.EXE O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe O4 - Startup: winlogon.lnk = ? | Re: browswer hijacked to go.google Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE
Note: Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall. CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine. |

| Re: browswer hijacked to go.google just wondering, when I was searching for combo fix earlier, there seemed to be some buzz about the program actually introducing malware on some computers, something about a root kit. comments before I download and use it? |
| ||
| Re: browswer hijacked to go.google I got to the uploading.com site, there was no obvious link to the combo fix program (no "hand" when I moved the mouse over the download area. Now, if I try to go back to that site, it's blocked - it's like this virus is alive and learning as it goes. |

| Re: browswer hijacked to go.google Nothing 'bad' about combofix that I am aware of. Have been advising it's use for over a year :). Download the HostsXpert. Run it and press "Restore M$ Hosts File" and press "OK". Exit Program. Note that if you have a custom host file, this will remove it. Try the download link now. |
