You need to explain what you plan to do first, we cannot just blindly recommend one over the other without knowing what you plan to do with it.

And honestly speaking you need to learn how to ask questions in a forum.

I'm really just getting started with Ajax. I'm just downloading scripts and the first one that I like requires a JSP/Servlet container (such as Apache Tomcat), Sun JDK 1.4 or 1.5 and MySQL to run.

Apache Tomcat is the most mature and stable servlet container out there used in a lot of production deployments. There are a lot of Tomcat resources out there and all Servlet / JSP books out there use Tomcat to showcase their examples.
