| Windows Explorer Stops Responding OK...I'm having a problem...I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 I have Avira Anti-virus, free version...Spybot S&D...CCleaner...Ad-Aware SE...and recently got Kaspersky Internet Security 8...free trial...than I downloaded AVG Anti-virus and installed it..after that I started getting problems...when I opened MY COMPUTER...CONTROL PANEL...or anything that uses WINDOWS EXPLORER...it works fine after opening it...BUT...after I close the window...I get a message saying that windows explorer stopped working...than it automatically restarts... I've scanned for viruses...I've cleaned my registry...but before that I restored my computer to before I installed AVG...and it still doesn't work...than I Undid the restoration and read the anti-virus and registry programs... I also downloaded Shexview, and disabled ALL the shell programs, EXCEPT one...and that one is needed to open up windows explorer...I believe it's called EXPLORERFRAME.DLL...and it still stopped responding...So I think the problem is in the EXPLORERFRAME.DLL file...I downloaded a new explorerframe.dll file but can't replace it...as it won't let me... Anyway...Any suggestions on what I should do? It's really getting annoying having explorer restart after every time I close control panel or the trashcan...or my computer... Thanks |

| Re: Windows Explorer Stops Responding You should only have 1 anti virus program.....!!! But it could be something else going on.... just those programs are not detecting it.... follow below: Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes...=dl&tag=button) to your desktop. * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program. * At the end, be sure to checkmark the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish. * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan. * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected. * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. * Post the log back here. Make sure that you restart the computer. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt Or at C:\Program Files\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt run that, and see if that make any difference... and also remove the programs... and then we can continue. | Re: Windows Explorer Stops Responding Be careful on where you download the antivirus or antispyware. This is because some setup files in untrusted places can be embeded with malicious software. Also running many antivirus and antisyware at same time causes conflicting. So before using one (If you do testing) disable one and use the other. Is problem still persisting?? |

| Re: Windows Explorer Stops Responding Alright, ill do that... and yes, the problem is still there... i know about anti-viruses, i pre-scan all downloaded programs before i run them, including anti-viruses... my cousins husband runs avira, and AVG, and Spybot search and destroy, and hijack this, ccleaner, and stuff like that...all together...hes been having this exact problem, and he somehow solved it from some online source, which is now lost...as no site was saved... and i had no idea it was from AVG, so i decided to try AVG, and after installing, the problem popped up...system restore, and uninstalling of AVG did no good... ill run hijackthis and post the log here |

| Re: Windows Explorer Stops Responding What I can suggest is: go to www.avast.com and download avast Home edition.Register to get the keys for free Download it and install it. Remove all other antivirus. Download comodo security and install the package except antivirus. update it (on misclaneous tab). Right click on avast GUI and select boot schedule option. Restart at prompt(select yes restart) Let it scan. Then scan malware using comodo. After that cleaning, you can do cleaning also using spyboat. Good time! Steve |
