Problems loading IE, and Windows Explorer
 

My IE doesn't load up properly, though Mozilla works fine except on sites with Quicktime, WMV, Java etc. After about a minute, Windows Explorer has problems loading as well and I can't even start up My Computer! When I shut down, there's a HIDDEN WINDOW process that doesn't end.
Yahoo Messenger works fine; ICQLite and MSN Messenger regularly crap out.

Have just tried reinstalling WInXP but doesn't seem to work. Any help appreciated.

Not a lot wrong in you log ,
Have Hijack This fix the following by placing a check in the appropriate boxes and selecting fix checked. Make sure all browser and all Windows Explorer windows are closed before fixing.
You might want to print out or copy & paste to notePad , these instructions as you will need to close this browser window to fix with hijackthis !

I used to have Norton but removed the process from starting up and tried installing Antivis Personal Edition, but the latter hangs midway through installation.

Unfortunately the fix didn't quite work, and I can't install the critical updates because IE doesn't work properly... will post the new Hijack this log in a bit. sigh. :(

5. Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

7. Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

8. Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
   

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

try firefox ,in the tools /options/downloads/plugins ,you can make sure some of those things are enabled .
