| Very frustrated please help!! Recently I have had a few problems concerning spyware. Everytime I boot my computer I notice in my 'add/remove programs' that there is a program called 'best search engine' and I always click to remove it. It never seems to permantely go away and if I don't remove it then when I connect to the internet my homepage is some sort of search engine and I constantly get pop ups of other search engines plus it closes the current internet explorer window and opens another! Also, in the toolbar on the bottom and top of the screen it says windowsupdate.microsoft.com instead of the ususal website name! Now when I do remove it and I connect to the internet then things seem to be fine but I'm just a bit concerned that this 'best search engine' just doesn't disappear! I've got McAfee virus scan, CWShredder, NoAdware and it doesn't go away! I'm not very technical and I have no idea what to do and I would really appreciate your help please?! |

| Re: Very frustrated please help!! Cannot see much there in your log, but there is something to remove. Unfortunately you are running hijackthis from a temp folder and all backups created can be lost as long as it resides there. Start hijackthis and go to config\misc tools and uninstall the program. You may have to scroll down to see the option. Once uninstalled, delete the file itself. [b]Download this self-extracting version from here. Uninstall the other version first, then manually delete the file. Rescan with hijackthis. Post that log here. Go here and download and run Silent Runners.vbs. It generates a log, please post the information back in this thread. Click Start > Run > Type or copy & paste regedit. The registry editor will open. Then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and delete the 'best search engine' in the right hand pane. Back up that part of the registry first by exporting to a safe location. |
