Another Search Engine Redirect Updated Malwarebytes will not remove

So I have another virus that redirects my search engine links to advertisements...

I have UPDATED Malwarebytes and scanned SEVERAL times and it has never found a problem. I also dled and updated Norman Malware and it found two viruses. I tried to copy them for future reference but it wouldn't let me. I also downloaded and updated superantispyware and it found 1 trojan as well however this did not get rid of the virus. I can't believe that Malwarebytes cannot find the problem (and yes I do have the current version as of today).

Here is my hijackthis log. I am really thankful for you guys I think I've had the most viruses on my comp the past 4 months than I have in my entire 10 years of owning computers.

Re: Another Search Engine Redirect Updated Malwarebytes will not remove

Oh, and while I was at it I have another question. Are you aware of any bugs with mozilla firefox that sqew autofill ins. I was wondering because I have a facebook account and I have used the same password for years with firefox. Firefox always autofilled my password after I entered my user information. Now when I try it says it is not a valid password. This has NEVER happened and I can't reset my password because my email account for facebook is extinct (I am trying to resolve this right now with facebook). Unless someone changed my password (this is impossible because no one gets on my computer I leave it at home and no one has my information) or the virus did it I don't know how this could have happened. I know facebook didn't change my password. Anyways since I cannot reset my password for facebook because my registered email account is extinct do you think it is possible to restore the mozilla firefox auto fill back to what it was at an earlier time (before it somehow obviously mysteriously changed) for my facebook to whatever it's original was so I can sign into facebook (since I can't remember my password since I always used autofill in, I tried the password I though I used and it didn't work so maybe someone hacked me with the virus and changed my password any way I have no clue how this happened and I've tried accessing facebook from other comps and it doesn't work)?

Sorry for the runons but it's a bad streak of luck?!

Re: Another Search Engine Redirect Updated Malwarebytes will not remove

Please re-run hijackthis again, select Do a system scan and save a logfile. When notepad opens, go to the Format Tab and de-select Word Wrap.
Highlight the entire text and post the log back here.

Re: Another Search Engine Redirect Updated Malwarebytes will not remove

I will go through your log when I have more time, but you need to be aware that Facebook accounts have already been hacked. It is possible that yours has been too.

Re: Another Search Engine Redirect Updated Malwarebytes will not remove

Can you please do the following.

===============

Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the following, if present:

Viewpoint Manager,Viewpoint Media Player,Viewpoint Toolbar

The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software.

===============

Scan with HijackThis and then place a check next to all the following, if present:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TY...lion&pf=laptop
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TY...lion&pf=laptop

O2 - BHO: Viewpoint Toolbar BHO - {A7327C09-B521-4EDB-8509-7D2660C9EC98} - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Toolbar\3.8.0\ViewBarBHO.dll (file missing)

O4 - Global Startup: BTTray.lnk = ?

O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://ie.redirect.hp.com/svs/rdr?TYPE=3&tp=iehome&locale=EN_US&c=Q405&bd=pavilion&pf=laptop

O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe

Now, close all instances of Internet Explorer and any other windows you have open except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

===============

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure you are able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

folders...

C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

-

Note that some of these file(s)/folder(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're 'in use', try deleting them in Safe Mode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear.
Select the first option to run Windows in Safe Mode hit enter.

-

Reboot.

===============

After rebooting, rescan with hijackthis and post back a new log. Please let me know how your pc is now.

I would also go into msconfig and disable a lot of those startups. You will find your pc will run a lot better.

Re: Another Search Engine Redirect Updated Malwarebytes will not remove

I had a question. When I went to uninstall the viewpoint stuff you said to be careful not to remove personal or system software (are you talking about viewpoint or other programs) because when I went to uninstall the viewpoints it gave me two options "toolbar uninstallation" or "complete uninstallation" which one did you want me to do?

Re: Another Search Engine Redirect Updated Malwarebytes will not remove

Unless there is anything of Viewpoint that you installed, remove all.

Re: Another Search Engine Redirect Updated Malwarebytes will not remove

Okay I followed the instructions but didn't have to do the safemode thing. Although I will add O23 - Service: Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation - C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Common\ViewpointService.exe was not available to fix. Also upon restart I encountered the following error:

ATI External Event Utility EXE module has encountered a problem and needs to close

The redirect engine is still not fixed :(
I tried a search and it directs me to advertisement links instead.

Oh I know how to quit startup programs in Vista 64 but not in xp. How do I use MsConfig to see what is running and to stop programs from auto startup?

Re: Another Search Engine Redirect Updated Malwarebytes will not remove

For msconfig go to START > RUN and type in msconfig and hit ok. Go to the startup Tab.

Please download ComboFix by sUBs from HERE or HERE
  • You must download it to and run it from your Desktop
  • Physically disconnect from the internet.
  • Now STOP all your monitoring programs (Antivirus/Antispyware, Guards and Shields) as they could easily interfere with ComboFix.
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log
  • Re-enable all the programs that were disabled during the running of ComboFix..

Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

CF disconnects your machine from the internet. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If CF runs into difficulty and terminates prematurely, the connection can be manually restored by restarting your machine.

Run Combofix ONCE only!!
