| Internet Connection seems blocked...??? Hi there! Havent been here for a while! After the tremendous help I got last time on this forum, I thought I would see if you could help me with another one... Problem is quite simple. I connect to the internet, and after a few short seconds, it just stops downloading web pages. It seems to be the connection rather than Firefox, as I cant download emails in outlook express, or run any updates for norton, ad aware, sypot and so on. I really dont think Ive got a virus, as Ive been much more careful since the last time...but I just cant figure out whats 'blocking' it. I havent installed anything new that I can remember. Only thing I have changed, was that I plugged in a new gamepad... Tis odd! I try to disconnect the internet. But when I try to connect again through my speedtouch modem, it connects to the server, but because it seems like it is 'blocked' it cannot verify password. I have to shut down the computer and start again, and I go back to the beginning of this post. It connects for maybe 5/6 seconds before 'jamming up'. Im doing this through another computer, but have transferred a 'HJT' log from my 'faulty' one. Any ideas???? Thanks... | Re: Internet Connection seems blocked...??? Your log is clean. I'd check with your ISP to see if the problem might be on their end, and also perhaps reset the modem before calling them. |

| Re: Internet Connection seems blocked...??? hmmm. Ive disconnected the modem and reinstalled it...but no luck. Also there is another computer in the house that has no problems...so I dont think its the ISP. Any other suggestions??????????? Thanks Martin |

| Re: Internet Connection seems blocked...??? oooh! Hey thanks for your help! I have to say I feel a bit stupid. After a bit of thought, I thought that it might be the gamepad after all. And it was! I had the gamepad, and the modem running through an unpowered USB hub (along with a couple of other things). And so it was just that there wasnt enough power I think. So Im writing this from my own computer again. Thanks again for your help! I do feel stupid though! :o |

The USB ports in your computer can only provide 500 mAmps of current to all/any connected devices. Powered USB hubs not only allow you to connect more USB devices, but also acts as bosters to provide more current to connected devices. Unpowered hubs, on the other hand, only allow you to connect more devices; they do not supply/provide the extra current that might be needed to "drive" those devices. |
