Adventures in Polity (pygame)

Hello All,

I'm quite new to these forums, and relatively new to programming. I wish to advance my skill of programming in Python, and to do this I will embark on a large scale project. I will be programming a game using pygame. I have no set window of time in which I hope to complete the project, so I may keep updating this thread for quite some time.

The game will be a 2D sci-fi action RPG, set in the future world of Polity. The original concept for the polity world is attributed to science fiction author, Neil Asher. Although my game will take place in Asher's Polity world, I will not be following the same story line from any of his books set in Polity in my game play. Characters from his novels, weapons, ideas, names, objects, etc, will be used in the game.

This project will be open-source, so you may view and modify my work. I ask though if you do modify my code, please do not release a new update of my game based on your modifications. Although, I will kindly accept if people post small blurbs of my code with corrections or suggested modifications.

All sprites for the game will either by hand drawn by myself, or made using GIMP. All programming will be done in Python with pygame. I will be doing all programming on Ubuntu 8.04 - the Hardy Heron OS.

I will be laying out some more extensive story work for my game in the next post, and will hope to be diving into programming very soon.

Thanks for reading, and stay tuned for updates,
Austin Jackson
