HJT Report/IE 6 SP2 Popups
 
hey...just ran hjt and came up with a log. Not sure on some things to remove?? Also im getting popups in IE all the time and they're always the same ones. Ran Ad-aware and Spybot and im still gettin them in IE. Heres my logfile...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi dustdogz.

Let's look for, and delete, any program segments(prefetches) that might be present, and are associated with the 'problems' we're trying to remove from this system. To do this, let's:

1) Click "Start | Search", then search for each of these program's base name(s), in all files and folders:

m?hta.exe*

2) Then if any are found in the 'prefetch' folder, delete them.

Look closely, since the 'base' name will have a bunch of random numbers and letters attached to it.

===============

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click "Config..."
2. Click "Misc Tools"
3. Click "Open Process manager"

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following:

C:\Documents and Settings\Dustin\Application Data\astr.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\m?hta.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u qmhbhjxc.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing.

Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

Congratulations! Your log looks clean - good work!

It's probably a good idea to defragment your hard drive too. This may well improve the performance of your PC.

===============

Download, install and run Cleanup! from Steven Gould, then:

1. Click "Cleanup!"

(wait for the program to finish scanning your system, and selecting files to be removed.)

2. Exit the program and reboot the computer, if necessary.

For more information about using Cleanup! see here.

If everything is running ok, let's do the final cleanup...

===============

1. Run "Disk Cleanup" and allow it to remove everything it finds.

2. Go to www.trendmicro.com and click "Free Online Scan", then "Scan now, it's free!". When it's downloaded, select all available drives, then check(tick) "Auto clean", then click "Scan".

CleanUp! Error Problems
 
hey thanks again for all the help. I really appreciate it. I ran the CleanUp! software and it was going through cleaning up everything just fine, then all of a sudden i keep getting the "CleanUp! has encountered a problem and needs to close. whenever it getes to these files...
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\ACRORD32.EXE-20C463C1.pf currently in use. Will be deleted when Windows is restarted.
C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\AGRSMMSG.EXE-0034A7F7.pf currently in use. Will be deleted when Windows is restarted.

it always crashes on me? Any suggestions?? thanks!

Have you restarted? You can also clear out the prefetch folder manually.

yep restarted and its still there...should i just manually delete everything in that folder because when i delete it maually, it doesnt give me the "currently in use" message. Thank ya!

Hi There,
im a newbie with a headache of pop-ups!! they drive me so mad i really am going to have a break down soon!! I dont know a great deal about pc's and i dont know why ive got pop-ups??? but i do know i need help not just mentally:eek: !!!! It all started about 3/4 weeks ago, i logged on to the pc to find extra icons on my desktop like cell phones, casino plus a few others i cant remember! i deleted them and they never came back but all i get is pop ups; mainly gambling sites and even porno!! ( although my partner dont mind!!;) ) its getting beyond a joke now tho, wenever i log on there are more pop-ups then before! from forums i found out that downloading hijackthis i can send you guys a report and you can work magic so here goes ( it just looks one big mess to me)
