| Removal of "Home Search Assistant", "Search Extender", & "Shopping Wizard" I think that the presence of the "Home Search Assistant", "Search Extender", & "Shopping Wizard" are causing my AIM to crash. I haven't noticed it causing problems anywhere else. Any ideas? Here is the HiJack Log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.0 Scan saved at 7:45:55 PM, on 03/10/2005 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\ibmpmsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\ISSVC.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug\mdm.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\atiptaxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\tp4serv.exe C:\PROGRA~1\ThinkPad\PkgMgr\HOTKEY\TPHKMGR.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\AEIWLSTA.EXE C:\WINDOWS\AGRSMMSG.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\mcc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Password Manager\AcctMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\Winamp\winampa.exe C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\mriwseui.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\appcv32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\ctfmon.exe C:\PROGRA~1\THEWEA~1\DWHeartbeatMonitor.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\wscript.exe C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat 6.0\Distillr\acrotray.exe C:\Program Files\iPod\bin\iPodService.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpohmr08.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpotdd01.exe C:\Program Files\Sony Corporation\Image Transfer\SonyTray.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpoevm08.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\Bin\hpoSTS08.exe C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\PkgMgr\HOTKEY\TPONSCR.exe C:\Program Files\ThinkPad\PkgMgr\HOTKEY_1\TpScrex.exe C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\iesd.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\mggzj.dll/sp.html#44768 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\mggzj.dll/sp.html#44768 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = about:blank R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1 R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing N1 - Netscape 4: user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://ecampus.bentley.edu"); | Re: Removal of "Home Search Assistant", "Search Extender", & "Shopping Wizard" Go Here and Get Trojan-Hunter Fully working trial! and run a full scan ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, To remove trojans there is a tool which needs to be downloaded and run. 1. Please download Stinger and save it to your desktop 2. Double-click on the stinger.exe file and open the tool 3. Choose your entire hard drive to scan. 4. Choose Scan Now 5. Stinger will fix anything that it finds 6. Click the File menu and select Save report to file 7. Post the log file results here in this thread. STINGER ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Reboot to SAFE mode to delete files How to start computer in safe mode Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example C:\WINDOWS\Temp\ C:\Temp\ C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\ Also delete your Temporary Internet Files, be sure to also select delete all offline content. Do a virus scan Please do an online scan, 2 would be better, Micro World http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/free_utilities.asp Trend Micro http://housecall.trendmicro.com/hous...start_corp.asp Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean". . ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Download then unzip and run CWShredder to clean up clicking "FIX" to have it remove all it finds. CWShredder available from these places :- http://www.aluriasoftware.com/tools/cwshredder.zip Or this as a full download without any unzipping required http://www.downloads.subratam.org/CWShredder.exe http://www.spywareinfo.com/downloads...CWShredder.exe We have found that some of the CWS infections can be removed better from safe mode, rather than normal mode. To get to safe mode use the F8 key while booting the machine. Detailed instructions from :- HERE ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Then please do this since it’s better to use automated tools to get rid of the bad stuff use these 2 programs first before doing the final cleaning with HJT First use Spybot S&D. (Version 1.3) Spybot Unzip, and update. Install the updates and run. Delete all that it marks in red. Reboot Then it’s time for Ad-Aware Ad-Aware Install and update by using the globe icon. Restart your computer and run Ad-Aware. Press scan now and select drives and/or partitions to be scanned. When done select all and click next. Remove all checked items and then reboot your computer. Please go to this page and read the instructions for how to configure Spybot S&D & Ad-Aware How To Setup Spybot SD and Ad-Aware ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, If needed !!!!!! Reboot and post a new HiJackThis log. You need an updated version of Hijackthis which you can get from HERE Then post a HJT log as a reply to this topic. |

| Re: Removal of "Home Search Assistant", "Search Extender", & "Shopping Wizard" Hi jmkthetruth. Got a few nasties there so we probably will not get them fixed up in one hit. =============== Run the PurityScan uninstaller. =============== Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then: 1. Click "Free Online Scan". 2. Click "Scan now, it's free". It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down: 1. Select all available drives. 2. Check(tick) "Auto Clean". 3. Click "Scan". When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted. =============== Download CWShredder 2 from here. Run it and press the *fix,* not scan and allow it to clean the infection. Close all browser and explorer windows before hitting the fix button. =============== Download, unzip to your desktop About:Buster and run it, then: 1. Click "Update". 2. Click "Check For Update" (If no new version is available, skip to step #4.) 3. Click "Download Update", and wait for it to be installed. 4. Click "Start". (Wait for the initial ADS scan to complete.) 5. Click "Yes", to shutdown any IE session currently open. (Wait for the about:blank scan to complete.) 6. Click "Ok", to scan once more. 7. Click "Yes", to shutdown any IE sessions currently open. 8. Click "Yes", to begin the second pass. 9. Click "Save log", and post this log back along with your new log. 10. Click "Exit". 11. Click "Exit". =============== Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present: TIBS The above could appear anywhere within the entry. Be careful not to remove any personal or system software. =============== You'll need to download uninst.exe to remove the 'peper' infection, then: 1. run uninst.exe ... (first pass). 2. reboot your computer. 3. run uninst.exe ... (final pass). Note: You must have an active internet connection, each time this program is run, for it to properly work. =============== Run HiJackThis then: 1. Click "Config..." 2. Click "Misc Tools" 3. Click "Open Process manager" - Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following: C:\WINDOWS\system32\appcv32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\netzv.exe Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "Kill process". Now, click "Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain. =============== Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following: regsvr32 /u sdkdy.dll It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to the command prompt to save on the typing. =============== Run HiJackThis and click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present: R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\pjlwv.dll/sp.html#44768 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINDOWS\pjlwv.dll/sp.html#44768 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\pjlwv.dll/sp.html#44768 R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\pjlwv.dll/sp.html#44768 R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = about:blank R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing N3 - Netscape 7: user_pref("browser.search.defaultengine", "engine://C%3A%5CProgram%20Files%5CNetscape%5CNetscape%5Csearchplugins%5CSBWeb_01.src"); (C:\Documents and Settings\kolodzi_jaso\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\default\8ikvzn85.slt\prefs.js) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {EE37178B-E57C-4045-A483-E895595C72A5} - C:\WINDOWS\sdkdy.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Multimedia Codecs] C:\WINDOWS\System32\mcc.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AOL Messenger] aolmsngr.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vmbwagimrvivd] C:\WINDOWS\System32\gcdxyja.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bLiiH.exe] C:\documents and settings\kolodzi_jaso\local settings\temp\bLiiH.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [6.exe] C:\documents and settings\kolodzi_jaso\local settings\temp\6.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [1f4d60651e5d] C:\WINDOWS\System32\cdfview6.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [3SAHCS#4MABT@T] C:\WINDOWS\System32\SjsAtZ.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [rF4U3mh] mriwseui.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tibs5] C:\WINDOWS\System32\tibs5.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2F.tmp] C:\DOCUME~1\KOLODZ~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\2F.tmp.exe 1 10001 O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [appcv32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\appcv32.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [8.tmp] C:\DOCUME~1\KOLODZ~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\8.tmp.exe 0 10001 O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2F.tmp.exe] C:\DOCUME~1\KOLODZ~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\2F.tmp.exe 4 10001 O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [8.tmp.exe] C:\DOCUME~1\KOLODZ~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\8.tmp.exe 1 10001 O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [AOL Messenger] aolmsngr.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Uahe] C:\Documents and Settings\kolodzi_jaso\Application Data\srai.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Ydi] C:\WINDOWS\System32\?vchost.exe O4 - Global Startup: hp psc 1000 series.lnk = ? | Re: Removal of "Home Search Assistant", "Search Extender", & "Shopping Wizard" Crunchie, thanks for the help, here is the update: I went through all the steps except the TrendMicro scan. The site seems to only be compatible with IE and I use FireFox because IE has given me so much trouble in the past. I tried with IE and it gave me an error alert and application termination message. Click "Check For Update" (If an update isn't available, skip to step 4) 2. Click "Click here to Download the upate" 3. When the new version has been downloaded, click "Save" 4.
