Upgrading G3 Powerbook to OSX. Can't start up from CD!

I am trying to upgrade a G3 Powerbook (bronze keyboard) to OSX (Panther) from OS 8.6 (it was 9.1 until I restored the software earlier in an attempt to sort it).

My issue is that the machine won't start up from the CD. I did it to an identical G3 earlier today and it worked fine.

The CD player worked with the original system software and can read the OSX one – it just won't start up from it.

Anyone know what I should do?
