| Explorer and Search hangs on XP Hi, Ok, I've got two problems, which I've been scratching my head over for days and drawn a total blank. I have just finished building a PC for a friend. It's just got Windows XP SP2 on it at the moment, along with the necessary drivers for the hardware and Dreamweaver MX 2004. However, I've noticed an annoying problem. If I attempt to do a search of the hard drive, I can't use any other application and the screen flickers. (ie if Dreamweaver is open, I can't use it). Also Windows Explorer hangs if I try to access the CD Drive, but not all the time. Autorun, and installations from CD work fine. Given it's not been connected to the Internet yet, it can't be a virus. I've been thinking that there might be a mismatch between DirectX and the Radeon drivers I have installed (I've got a Saphire 9200SE with the latest drivers), which might explain the screen flicker, but that only happens when I use windows search program. Could it be a corrupt XP installation or a hardware problem ? or both ? Anyone any suggestions ? I've checked the Event Log, and there's nothing failing. These are the only two problems with the system, everything else is fine. Hardware: Gigabyte GA7N400 PRO AMD 1700+ XP 512MB Memory Saphire 9200SE Graphics Card LG DVD Drive CD Drive (Can't remember the make) 40GB Hitachi SATA Drive 2 x IDE Drive's (Both Western Digital) Oh, and a quick note - Initial installation was to one of the IDE drives, and I ghosted it to the SATA drive, but both problems were present when the system was on the IDE drive. Thanks for any help Mike |
