| Problems IE 6 Win98 redirected from google to other site Greetings, I have a computer problem. The problem started a couple of months ago when I went to log on to Google. Instead of going to that page, it redirected me to a different page that appeared to be Google but every site was a different porn or gambling listing. I didn't retain the name of that site. Duh. Now, when I open a web site and double click to open something from that page, a new page starts to appear but doesn't continue loading. In reading a note in one of your other forums, it suggested downloading and running hijackthis. I did so and here is my log. Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7 Scan saved at 10:58:02 PM, on 1/20/04 Platform: Windows 98 Gold (Win9x 4.10.1998) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS.000\SYSTEM\KERNEL32.DLL C:\WINDOWS.000\SYSTEM\MSGSRV32.EXE C:\WINDOWS.000\SYSTEM\MPREXE.EXE C:\WINDOWS.000\EXPLORER.EXE C:\WINDOWS.000\SYSTEM\QTTASK.EXE C:\WINDOWS.000\LOADQM.EXE C:\PROGRAM FILES\MSN MESSENGER\MSNMSGR.EXE C:\WINDOWS.000\SYSTEM\DDHELP.EXE C:\WINDOWS.000\SYSTEM\PSTORES.EXE C:\UNZIPPED\HIJACKTHIS[1]\HIJACKTHIS.EXE R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.websearch.com/ie.aspx?tb_id=50036 R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.linkinpark.com/ R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = res://C:\PROGRA~1\TOOLBAR\TOOLBAR.DLL/sa R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.websearch.com/ie.aspx?tb_id=50036 R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = http://www.websearch.com/ie.aspx?tb_id=50036 R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,CustomizeSearch = res://C:\PROGRA~1\TOOLBAR\TOOLBAR.DLL/sa R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {8952A998-1E7E-4716-B23D-3DBE03910972} - C:\PROGRA~1\TOOLBAR\TOOLBAR.DLL O2 - BHO: (no name) - {63B78BC1-A711-4D46-AD2F-C581AC420D41} - C:\WINDOWS.000\SYSTEM\BTIEIN.DLL O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D6DFF6D8-B94B-4720-B730-1C38C7065C3B} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\BTLINK\BTLINK.DLL O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8952A998-1E7E-4716-B23D-3DBE03910972} - C:\PROGRA~1\TOOLBAR\TOOLBAR.DLL O2 - BHO: (no name) - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\ADOBE\ACROBAT 5.0\READER\ACTIVEX\ACROIEHELPER.OCX O3 - Toolbar: &Search Toolbar - {339BB23F-A864-48C0-A59F-29EA915965EC} - C:\PROGRA~1\TOOLBAR\TOOLBAR.DLL O3 - Toolbar: &Radio - {8E718888-423F-11D2-876E-00A0C9082467} - C:\WINDOWS.000\SYSTEM\MSDXM.OCX O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\WINDOWS.000\SYSTEM\QTTASK.EXE" -atboottime O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LoadQM] loadqm.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [msnmsgr] "C:\PROGRAM FILES\MSN MESSENGER\MSNMSGR.EXE" /background O9 - Extra button: Related (HKLM) O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links (HKLM) O12 - Plugin for .spop: C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~1\Plugins\NPDocBox.dll O16 - DPF: {90C9629E-CD32-11D3-BBFB-00105A1F0D68} (InstallShield International Setup Player) - http://www.installengine.com/engine/isetup.cab O16 - DPF: {D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000} (Shockwave Flash Object) - http://download.macromedia.com/pub/s...sh/swflash.cab O16 - DPF: {F58E1CEF-A068-4C15-BA5E-587CAF3EE8C6} (MSN Chat Control 4.5) - http://chat.msn.com/bin/msnchat45.cab Can you please give me some guidance from here? I advice going to symantec.com and checking out some of their information about this. Good chance norton antivirus now has these trojans and worms listed in their database. There are also alternatives like the cleaner and spybot search & destroy programs that specificly focus on trojan/worms/spybot removal. Link: SpyBot Search & Destroy @ http://www.safer-networking.org/ Link: The Cleaner -trojan remover @ http://www.moosoft.com/ Link: Norton AntiVirus @ http://www.symantec.com/product/index_homecomp.html Good luck! Good luck! |

| Re: Problems IE 6 Win98 redirected from google to other site Yes ...the manual removals are rarely easy. Please download and run this program :- http://www.merijn.org/files/cwshredder.zip THEN Please Download and install SpyBot, http://security.kolla.de/ click the online tab to search for and download the updates, then shut down and relaunch SpyBot. Go to the Settings tab > File Sets, and uncheck 'System Internals' and 'Tracks' . These aren't needed for our present purpose, and you can always experiment with them later on. Finally, after closing down Internet Explorer, click 'Check for problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds 'Fix selected problems' you may have to run spybot more than once to clear everything Remove everything pre-ticked in Red ------- That should clean most of it up... Then post a new log and we'll take out what's left manualy. steam |

My lingo may not be exact enough. When I'm in a website and I double click to open a file (even if I'm in e-mail and try to open an attachment) in a new window, the window frame appears but nothing loads. Thanks, Gerry |

I opted to continue on with the guidance from steam as I am pretty new to all this and can use all the help available. I did run the spybot and it sure found a lot of items. Gerry |
