Can javascript do session variables?

I've been searching around the web since I don't have my library of books available right now -- but here's my question... can I do a purely javascript session variable without the use of PHP, ASP, or anything else?

Any good resource pages on that? I just need to do simple setting, reading, and removing.

The intent was to use Javascript so that I don't have to change any file extensions - other suggestions are welcome though.

I think I've already answered my own question - nevermind. :)

No. JavaScript can do cookies, though.
