Please help with " rdriv.sys" virus
 
Hi ! When I was browsing the web today, my anti-virus software detected an attack of a " rdriv.sys" virus.It's in my system32 folder. I deleted the virus but my anti-virus software keeps detecting attacks from the same virus.

This afternoon when I tried to start windows but it went to bluescreen.
So I went into save mode and deleted the virus again. After that i could start normally again. Can someone tell my how I can remove this virus once and for all? Thanks alot!

Hi,
Download Ewido and install it. Then run, you will receive a warning message saying "Database not found", click "OK" for this. Next in the main screen, click "Update" and click "Start Update". After the update process, exit from Ewido.

Download CCleaner and install it.


Make Windows to show all files:-
Go to Start > My Computer.
Go to Tools menu, click Folder Options (Folder Option will be in View Menu in Win98).
Uncheck Hide protected operating system files.
Then, click to select the option Show hidden files and folders.
Click Apply and then click OK to exit.


Reboot in Safe Mode:-
Restart (or switch ON) the PC.
Then, keep tapping the F8 Key.
From the menu that will be displayed, out of which choose Safe Mode and press Enter.


Go to Start > Run and type services.msc and press ENTER. Here, navigate to the service named:-
Hardware Clock Driver (hwclock)
Right-click on this Service, then click "Properties". Here, in the "Status" dialog box, select "Stop". Then, under "Startup type" dialog box, select "Disabled". Click "Apply" and then "OK".
Do the same process (of stopping and disabling) for this Service too:-
Windows Task Manager Service (tskman)


Run HijackThis and click Do only a System scan.
Then put a check mark infront of below listed entries:-

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SYSTRAY] C:\UNMT.EXE
O23 - Service: Hardware Clock Driver (hwclock) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\hwclock.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Windows Task Manager Service (tskman) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\task.exe

Close all other open programs except Hijackthis and click the button Fix Checked in HijackThis.


Exit from HijackThis. Delete these files:-
C:\UNMT.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hwclock.exe
C:\WINDOWS\task.exe
Also, delete the rdrv.sys file, if found.


Run CCleaner, click "Options" button and here go to "Advanced" tab and uncheck the option "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours". Click OK to exit from the Options. Finally click "Run Cleaner" and click "OK" to continue cleaning.

Run Ewido, click on the "Scanner" button in the left menu, then click on the "Complete System Scan" button.
If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "Clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file.


Reboot to Normal Mode. Run HijackThis again, click Do a System scan and save log, and post the fresh log along with the Ewido log.

I've followed your steps and here's my new HiJackThis log, unfortunatly I couldn't save a copy of the ewido scan report ( there was an error),but ewido managed to delete two viruses.
