| Intermitent access to google and other sites Hi. Thanks for all the tips. I haven't fix my problem yet but have got some good tools and learned some stuff already from posts here! My problems is intermitent trouble loading websites. I usually (over the last week or so) cannot access google, but I have also been able to a couple fo times. I have been shut out of other (seemingly random) sites as well. I connect my laptop to my linsys broadband wireless router with an ethernet cable, and it has the same trouble, as does another computer in the house the accesses wirelessly. I can load google through http://66.102.7.147 on my browser (either firefox or IE), and I can Ping it, however I can neither load nor Ping www.google.com. I saw advice to another user on the forum and ran "netsh winsock reset", but this did not help. Thanks for any suggestions or tips! | Re: Intermitent access to google and other sites A system restore shouldnt be the first solution to this, lets try a few things first. This seems like a HOSTS file infection - I would go to this site, and replace your current HOSTS file with this modified one. http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm ALSO - to FIX in HJT... I would also uninstall McAfee off your computer, since that one you have is an older version. I want to recommend getting a mcafee virus scan + firewall plus suite; alternatively Sygate Firewall + AVG Virus Scan (http://free.grisoft.com). |

| Re: Intermitent access to google and other sites Thank you both. It turned out that the problem was with my router. However, I did learn a lot from everyone here and really appreciated your help and suggestions (which I have followed up on!) thanks again |
