Internet Explorer will not connect...

Hi everyone,
While browsing online this morning an error box popped up and I foolishly ignored it and clicked ok. Well now Internet explorer will not connect to the web, but AOL and other programs will. I am connecting via cable modem and I know it's working. I have tried almost everything to get IE to work, and I think I may have done more harm than good. What is my next step? Thanks for any help!

Nevermind, I decided to quit using IE and started using FireFox... much much better!
