| Cannot find server or DNS Error I am trying to view www.edison.edu. The problem is : When I first tried to acess the page it was saying Page Cannot Be Displayed and at the bottem it said Incompleate Server Response. After getting this message I went to the Tool:Internet Options:Connections: Settings and then unchecked Use Proxy Server for both LAN and dial-up settings. I then tried to acess the Page again and it said Page Cannot Be Displayed and at the bottem Cannot Find Server or DNS Error. Why? THis is an educational page? Here is the log from Hijacker: Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 8:04:26 PM, on 6/28/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ACS\AOLAcsd.exe c:\program files\mcafee.com\agent\mcdetect.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcshield.exe c:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mctskshd.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7DEBUG\MDM.EXE C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Album Starter Edition\3.0\Apps\apdproxy.exe C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\VSO\mcvsshld.exe C:\Program Files\McAfee.com\VSO\oasclnt.exe C:\PROGRA~1\mcafee.com\agent\mcagent.exe C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\1.bin\mwsoemon.exe c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsescn.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_07\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exe C:\Program Files\PeoplePC\ISP6330\Browser\Bartshel.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft Broadband Networking\MSBNTray.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\PROGRA~1\PeoplePC\ISP6330\Browser\PPShared.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe C:\Program Files\PeoplePC\ISP6330\Browser\Bartshel.exe C:\Program Files\PeoplePC Accelerated\PeoplePC.exe c:\progra~1\intern~1\IEXPLORE.EXE c:\progra~1\intern~1\IEXPLORE.EXE c:\progra~1\intern~1\IEXPLORE.EXE C:\Program Files\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://home.peoplepc.com/search/ R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://mirs.peoplepc.com/?offername=PeoplePC Accelerated&userName=mostwanted6543&firstName=Jason&qs=DDLCGBHOPKKFGFGFBBGLCNDGOGEIOOLADONNEBJOFDHEECDEIOLAPMKDNLHFHJDHEPCAEJNJLMAOHHCAENEMEOODLJKCFFPEMHMNCBKNMEEIGHCHFGBILNCBGENMGCGO|ACFJMLBEDGNMCNOPADEEAAGOBAFDFE R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=localhost:8080 R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {00A6FAF6-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL O2 - BHO: MyWebSearch Search Assistant BHO - {00A6FAF1-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll O2 - BHO: mwsBar BHO - {07B18EA1-A523-4961-B6BB-170DE4475CCA} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MWSBAR.DLL O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_07\bin\ssv.dll O2 - BHO: PeoplePC ScamGuard - {7E3659A6-4BC5-4d93-B3FD-8B5ACC2FEDED} - C:\Program Files\PeoplePC\Toolbar\ScamGrd.dll O2 - BHO: PeoplePal Toolbar - {A8FB8EB3-183B-4598-924D-86F0E5E37085} - C:\Program Files\PeoplePC\Toolbar\PPCToolbar.dll O3 - Toolbar: Yahoo! | Re: Cannot find server or DNS Error 1. I see no signs of any terribly malicious programs in your log, although I'd highly suggest opening your Add/Remove Programs control panel and uninstalling the MyWay/MyWebSearch programs. At the very least, they slow down your browsing and your computer in general; at the very worst, they are adware. 2. You have both PeoplePC and AOL connectivity components installed and running. Do you use currently use both services? 3. Is it only the one site that you're having problems reaching/viewing? |

| Re: Cannot find server or DNS Error You will need to close/quit all open programs and disconnect from the Internet for some of the following, so you should print out these instructions or save them into a text file with Notepad. 1. Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune and save the file to your desktop. Do not actually run the program yet! 2. Click on the "Run..." option under your Start menu, type "CMD" (omit the quotes) in the resulting "Open:" window, and hit OK. This will open a DOS window. * At the DOS prompt, type the following three commands one at a time, hitting the Enter key after each: ipconfig /flushdns sc stop AOL ACS sc delete AOL ACS * Close the DOS window after the third command completes. If you receive any errors while doing the above, tell us exactly what they were. * Open HijackThis again and run another scan. Put a check in the box to the left of the following entry (if still present), and then click the "Fix Checked" button after that: O23 - Service: AOL Connectivity Service (AOL ACS) - America Online - C:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ACS\AOLAcsd.exe 3. Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
Under Main choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button. If you use Firefox browser : Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button. NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. If you use Opera browser: Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All Click the Empty Selected button. NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt. Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program. * Reboot your computer normally, try to access the problematic site again, and tell us the results. - |
