Sr. Software Engineer

Location: Arlington, VA
Salary: 90-105 K

SUMMARY: The successful applicant will have responsibility for designing, developing and maintaining large scale software projects. Excellent Java skills are required along with an ability to lead an active group of developers in a fun and fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills will allow the applicant to work directly with customers as well as providing technical and procedural guidance to the project team.
· Produce detailed design specifications from project requirements.
· Work with lead software engineers and technical project managers develop comprehensive work breakdowns and project development schedules.
· Design robust solutions that accommodate changing business direction and rapid business growth.
· Code projects from design specifications.
· Provide technical guidance and mentoring to one or more junior developers.
· Track and report development progress and problems.

Job Requirements:
· 3 to 5 years of software development experience in a full life cycle environment
· Expert level Java development skills, Sun Java Certification a major plus.
· Experience with XML, XSD/DTD
· Working knowledge of source code control systems and configuration management practices is required
· Working knowledge of design and implementation of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is required.
· Working knowledge of object-oriented analysis and development methodology is preferred.
· Experience with performance testing and tuning distributed applications is preferred.
· Experience with design and implementation of scalable distributed systems is preferred.
· Experience with UNIX or Linux is preferred.
· Experience with JDBC and SQL is required.
· Experience with Apache Tomcat and Apache Axis preferred required.

· Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
· Strong interpersonal skills.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· BS or equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering or mathematics with 3 to 5 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
