Nothing Will Open On Desktop/Start Menu. Freezes. HELP!
 

Hello. I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I was having problems with my computer before, but as of today I cannot open ANYTHING on my desktop nor when I go to the start menu. It ends up freezing. I have restarted it myself and nothing will work. When I tried clicking on Norton it said to uninstall it and then reinstall it, something about some kind of error. I know I had a virus from downloading a song, and it was Quarentined but I thought I got rid of it somehow.

Anyways, I read some posts about my similar problem, but in my case I cannot open ANYTHING in order to check internet or files.

Somone please help. I am usually very good about fixing my computer, but as of right now I am clueless as per I cannot get into anything. Also, I am running Windows XP!!!

reboot to safe mode and try scanning with nortons.
to get to safe mode hit f8 on reboot

hello again ,i move the thread to the virus fourm as that is where the hijackthis logs are to be posted ,i don't read logs anymore myself ,but do see abit in it , like the mywebsearch stuff .

if you do get to use hijackthis it is recomended that you unzip it to a folder of its own like c:\HJT, as you are running it from with in the zip folder .

You've definitely got spyware on there. MyWebSearch for one, and I rate that as a nasty. You also seem to have a heck of a lot of programs running at startup (many of them HP ones).

Personally (and it IS just a personal view), once a system starts playing up like this I advise people to think about a clean install because you can never be sure what damage has been done. Even if you get the stuff off, it can leave 'holes' behind which become apparent at awkward times.

Damn. Okay. So what do you recommend that I do? Where should I start first? I actually managed to delete alot of preinstalled games/programs that came on my computer. So I hope that helped. I also managed to get into some programs like the internet and such.
