| bridge.dll, system hangs, god knows what else... :-) Hi all, After reading many of the postings (esp some that sounded similar to my problem) I figured it was time to seek some help, since nothing I tried works. I've had the same bridge.dll probs like others. I get the same error message at boot: "RUNDLL: Error loading C:\windows\system 32\bridge.dll. The specified module could not be found." Then, after a while, my system locks up. I'm unable to diagnose the problem, but have run Adaware, HJT, Spybot S&D, and CWshredder a number of times with no success. I've tried to run virus scans (NAV 2004 locally and online virus scans), but the system locks up before the process can complete -- even in SAFE mode. I hope someone can help. Here's my HJT log: ------------- Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7 Scan saved at 9:06:47 PM, on 5/27/2004 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXBCES.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\LEXPPS.EXE C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\gearsec.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug\mdm.exe C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\navapsvc.exe C:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\Norton Utilities\NPROTECT.EXE C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\SAVScan.exe C:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~1\SPEEDD~1\nopdb.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\Ati2evxx.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\WINDOWS\System32\LXSUPMON.EXE C:\Program Files\Logitech\iTouch\iTouch.exe C:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exe C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exe C:\Program Files\Logitech\MouseWare\system\em_exec.exe C:\Program Files\plem\PowerSS\pss.exe C:\WINDOWS\webshots.scr C:\Program Files\NoteTab Pro\NotePro.exe C:\Program Files\Avant Browser\iexplore.exe C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe R0 - | Re: bridge.dll, system hangs, god knows what else... :-) Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' : O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RunDLL] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\System32\bridge.dll",Load O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [ODHLTX] C:\WINDOWS\XTPOK.exe Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found: C:\WINDOWS\XTPOK.exe<<<< Reboot normally. |

Re: bridge.dll, system hangs, god knows what else... :-) Thanks for the help, crunchie! I've followed your advice and am going to give my virusscan a chance to run now. BTW, have you ever heard of XTPOK.exe? I did a search on it and came up empty... Cimmerra

Re: bridge.dll, system hangs, god knows what else... :-) I came up with zero also, that is why I recommend it's removal.

Re: bridge.dll, system hangs, god knows what else... :-) Thanks for the help crunchie. I appreciate it. I was able to remove all the items you said and now am bridge-free. I noted that I am also dealing with a virus (I believe) that prevents me from running a complete virus scan without locking up my system. Is this the proper forum to present this or should I post elsewhere? Thanks!

Re: bridge.dll, system hangs, god knows what else... :-) Stay with this thread till we get you sorted. Go here for an on-line scan & set it to autoclean for you. Also go here for another one http://www.pandasoftware.com/actives..._principal.htm Let us know the results of both.

Re: bridge.dll, system hangs, god knows what else... :-) crunchie, I was unable to get an online scan at TrendMicro. I got the following message: "Unable to run HouseCall. Because this website is not authorized to host HouseCall." I did, however manage to start Panda's ActiveScan. It locks up everytime (> 6 times). I even uninstalled a couple apps whose dirs were consistently being scanned when the lockup occurred (C:\j2sdk, C:\Program Files\j2re). After I did that and tried again, it still locked up, but first found and "disinfected" three viruses: Tri/Briss.A (C:\Windows\infamous.exe, Trojan Horse.LC (C:\Windows\msssocks.exe, and Tri/Krepper.A (C:\Windows\precontrol.exe. I only know what they were because I stopped the scan before my system could lock up on me. After shutting down and rebooting, I tried to run it again but it still locked up... To sum up: some progress, but still crippled. Still lookin' for help. Thx! Cimmerra

Re: bridge.dll, system hangs, god knows what else... :-) You could if you wish download a trial version of NOD32 anti virus. It is arguably the leading AV out at the moment. You can get it here: http://www.nod32.com/download/download.htm Let us know how you get on.
