Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Unzip HijackThis into this folder. When you run HijackThis from this folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary.

No, you didn't do anything wrong- why do you ask?

You do have a lot of problems there; follow these instructions posted one of our HJT/spyware specialists (crunchie):

Also in 'tweaks' under 'cleaning engine' set it to 'Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion' & 'let Windows remove files in use at next reboot.'
Select 'activate in-depth scan' before starting scan.
When the scan is finished select 'next.'
Remove what it finds by placing a check in the box to the left of the object. Reboot

Download & instal Spybot S&D from here Update it B4 scanning. Go into settings & have it check for Beta releases also & download if available.
After the scan is complete, have spybot fix everything marked RED.
On the page that first opens when you start Spybot there is an option to immunise, you should do this. In the immunise section there is also a link to download Spywareblaster. Download that & you can keep it updated by selecting the same link that you use to download it. Reboot

Download HijackThis from here & unzip it into it's own, permanent folder, (Not a temporary folder or the desktop & not directly on your hard drive). Start HJT & with all browser windows closed, press the scan button. When the scan is finished the scan button will change to save. Save the log to a text file, copy the entire contents of the text file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is harmless & even necessary to the running of your system.

Hi Guys,

Okay I believe I followed all your instructions with exception of the last post, so to caperjack, no disrespect. I am just trying to get down a system. At this point I have downloaded, updated, and ran both adaware and spybot; removed the challenges it located and rebooted my PC. I am moved Hijakit to its own folder, per your instructions and below is my current posting of the log. Thanks for your help you cats are awesome.

Hi. Please follow Caperjack's advice on what to remove & could you also after doing that, do this as well:

Start your computer in Safe Mode following the instructions here (it may help if you print this out), and find and delete the mtwirl.dll file in your Windows\System32 folder

In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.

Now copy the contents of the 'Quote' box to Notepad, and save as Remove.reg (save as type: 'all files' )
Doubleclick Remove.reg, and answer yes when asked to have its contents added to the Registry.

I have accomplished the things you have suggested. Mad props going out to all you kewl Kats. I think my system is running better, it seems to be moving along at the speed of business.
